University Life - Two weeks in.

So I started university two weeks ago (Now about 5 weeks as I forgot to post this! 🙈). So far, socializing has been my main engagement. This, I suppose is what I expected and is one of the main reasons I came to university. Making things on your own is all well and good, but a major part of your job as a prop maker (most jobs in fact) involve working with other people. You won't get anywhere is this life if you don't work together and collaborate with others around you. Not only is vital to develop 'people skills', it can also be so rewarding. You can also learn a vast amount from the people around you, from new techniques to new processes, everyone's knowledge base will be different. Working in an environment with other creative types has been so inspiring and awesome and has pushed me to become a more inventive and imaginative prop maker.

So far we've been introduced to some of the machines in the workshop and how to use them safely. Our first project was to cut out a range of different shapes using the tools we'd been introduced to. It was a nice slow week and I've been trying to enjoy it as much as possible as I don't think the serenity will last. This week we are going to be introduced to more tools and start the next project - making a toy train! I've already had some design ideas which I'll attach to the post.

Cut to finishing the train project! Here are some pictures of the finished product.
